Fallen Timber Creek

Unfinished business! I had walked the first section of this creek but had not completed the whole thing. It had rained the night before: by the time we were in the creek, we were soaked … The start of this creek is pretty: with the past rains, the water was flowing. The small waterfalls in the creek can be avoided but we had the abseiling gear: everything was wet and slippery, it was safer to abseil!

We followed the creek through a lovely rainforest with pristine moss. We soon arrived to the terra incognita part of the trip: by then the creek had widened. I do not know if a “tornado” went through this section, but from then on we spent our time stepping over, climbing up, going under or avoiding fallen timber.
A small canyon provided some respite complete with the compulsory swim section! It was short and could be avoided with some effort: I could not be bothered and I went in the water! Some of the rocks had old “scuff marks” on the moss: people had been there! And just like that we were at the confluence with another creek that I had visited before.
We continued looking for an exit among the cliffs. For my sins, I was with a climber… No walking till we found a break in the cliff! “We can exit there!” The “there” looked like a wall covered in among other things sword grass: it was not going to be easy! I made it (with a handline). The positive is we gained height quickly. We continued up the spur until we reached a ridge that took us back to the cars. A bit disappointed by the second half of the creek but it was a nice day out!
