GUZZLERS ARCH
GUZZLERS ARCH
Bill and John had tried to find the arch previously and ended up benighted by the vegetation. Armed with a 6-figure reference for Guzzlers Arch, we set off to Deep Pass.
After climbing on the ridge on the other side of Deep Pass, the group organically split in two: one wisely followed a track, the other – of which I was – contoured the hill, the rationale was to follow a cliff line and have views… Several cooees later, we re-united.
A quick cuppa and we were descending into the creek of interest: Guzzlers Gulch! The vegetation was waiting for us! What followed was a hard slog through ferns, regrowth and fallen timber while avoiding getting wet feet! So when Guzzlers Arch materialised, it was a let down (for me at least): grandiose, it was not!
We pushed on along the creek and found a … car wreck – the location of Guzzlers Hut! John could not remember where the hut was. I went on a recce and found a pipe which I followed uphill. The hut did not stand anymore but artefacts such as a bed frame, bath tub, stove, fridge, water tank and other sundry were littered on the ground. That was definitively more interesting than the arch!
We left and climbed to Mount Cameron Trail. A track took us back along a ridge back to the gully in Deep Pass and eventually back to the cars!
