Magnifcent views over the Jamison Valley, herds of people, litter, graffiti, anti-social behaviour, tourist buses, traffic congestion: Lincoln Rock has it all!
SOME BACKGROUND
LINCOLN'S ROCK
The rock is a large slab of sandstone with uninterrupted views of the Jamison Valley, Sublime Point, the Three Sisters and Narrow Neck.
It is a popular crowded site, a favorite of people travelling under the social influence and sunset lovers!
LITTLE SWITZERLAND CAVE
The cave is located below the rock and contains a wall, fireplace and water supply. One theory is that a German migrant used the cave as a home. Thought of being Swiss, the name remained. Another theory is that the Sydney University Bushwalkers used the place as a camping area in the 1940/50s. Some of the bushwalkers would have been German or Swiss.
A DEGRADED SITE
Lincoln’s Rock used to be a “secret”. Now it is a textbook example of what unrestrained tourism does to a place!
The rock is marred with graffiti and carved inscriptions. One might argue that these might have an historical value with time… Trash can be found everywhere; people even throw their trash over the edge!
