Wouldn’t it be nice to go there again? The plan was set in motion… The regrowth was not too bad and soon we were at the start of a cliff-enclosed valley. The galleries consisting of caves and overhangs were stunning. Although the 2019 bushfire had left its mark on the landscape, the valley […]

GUZZLERS ARCH https://www.wildbluemountains.com/2023/05/wollemi-guzzlers-arch/ https://www.wildbluemountains.com/2023/05/wollemi-guzzlers-arch/#respond Tue, 30 May 2023 18:13:00 +0000 https://www.wildbluemountains.com/?p=22457 GUZZLERS ARCH 31 May 2023 Bill and John had tried to find the arch previously and ended up benighted by the vegetation. Armed with a 6-figure reference for Guzzlers Arch, we set off to Deep Pass. After climbing on the ridge on the other side of Deep Pass, the group organically split in two: one wisely followed a track, the other – of which I was – contoured the hill, the rationale was to follow a cliff line and have […]

The word “teetering” did not inspire confidence: I imagined small precarious cliff ledges – it was a Yuri walk after all! We descended the slope and reached the cliff line level stopping to look at caves/overhangs and the marvelous sandstone patters. The teetering cliffs materialised: no smooth walls, just a bunch of large rocks thrown together: it […]

The goal was to explore a long cliffline hoping to find interesting ledges, overhangs or caves and of course an exit! We did not see anything mind blowing but it was a good walk!  We did find a pass through the cliffs and continued the exploration from the top. The views were magnificent! We could even see Mount Yengo far far away! On the way back, we were […]

Although I had to get up at an uncivilised hour, this remote area has a few gems to offer. Yuri had published his report on the Wonder Caves and my appetite was whetted! The caves and a neighbouring cave did not disappoint: colours, shapes, textures were a feast to the eye!We left the caves with regret but a swim in a pool and lunch were […]

GALAH CANYON https://www.wildbluemountains.com/2023/02/wollemi-galah-canyon/ https://www.wildbluemountains.com/2023/02/wollemi-galah-canyon/#respond Wed, 22 Feb 2023 18:13:00 +0000 https://www.wildbluemountains.com/?p=17526 GALAH CANYON 23 February 2023 Galah is a lovely albeit short canyon. We were prepared for a long day and it was indeed. The 2019-20 fires and subsequent floods damaged the creek section: lots of climbing, avoiding and burrowing… Once in the “canyoniferous” section, Galah Canyon worked its magic and all the hard work getting there was forgotten!

Thanks to the Bushwalking Gods for the cool waters of the creek! The views and the Cascades were the highlight of the trip!

It was a hot day and spending several hours in the water seemed like a good idea. The original fire trail was overgrown after the fires but this did not prevent Kent to drive those lazy canyoners closer to the start of the track! Sheep Dip is a fun little canyon/creek with lots of slides, pools and […]
