Flagstaff Hill Creek
Flagstaff Hill Creek
John has recently been fascinated by what he calls “J canyons” in the Blue Mountains. The water in the creek hit a resistant rock and over time formed a J-shaped bend.
Today we were going to an unnamed creek exhibiting one such J curve. I had walked above the creek a few years back and there seemed to be a short canyon.
We followed a rocky ridge with some nice pagodas and rocks taking our time and climbing as you do! We made our way down to the creek: the hydrophilic went in the water, the hydrophobic followed from the top!
The creek was scrubby: we spent some time avoiding the compulsory logjams and rock boulders. After a tea break under an overhang, we arrived to the J canyon. I had hopes: it had looked nice from the top but from the bottom, it was on the boring side! The lateral cutting was visible though. The creek flattened out and we climbed out and were back at the cars before the heat could catch up with us.
Would I come back? No, except I have left my trusted hand line there!
