The Old Sawmill

It has been some seven years since I have been to the old sawmill: the perfect walk for a mild afternoon. After a car shuffle, we took the track that follows the original tramway/cable incline to the bottom of the gully. From there it was a short walk to an unnamed creek where the sawmill was built. Cables, carriage wheels, crank shaft and other parts are scattered on the rainforest floor.
The star of the show is the boiler encased in a partially fallen stone wall. How did they get this heavy machinery down is anyone guess!
Surprisingly the site is in good shape: no trash, no graffiti or scratching but it looks like some artefacts have been taken away: looking at past photographs, I remember seeing more! 

With the construction of the railway network, demand for timber was high. Sawn timber can be found in the Linden-Faulconbridge area. 

After a quick lunch, we followed Linden Creek and made our way up back to civilisation! I took a detour to find a geocache but I was unsuccessful!
