Boar’s Head, Moss Pit And Skinny

Two weeks ago the ferocious winds prevented us from doing Boar’s Head and Skinny: today was a grey benign day!
Boar’s Head is always a fun abseiling trip.  Abseil 01 along a wall is one of my favourite. The slot was uneventful but I could feel the breeze channelling between the walls. Abseil 02 and 03 were combined into one abseil as space is limited at the bottom of abseil 02. We watched climbers having fun on the rock face. Then it was abseil 04 followed by abseil 05 – a nice long one! The views on top of abseil 04 were magnificent.
And then a walk along the cliffline and back up Devil’s Hole. I left the group at the bottom wanting to get started with the climb back uo.

The next abseil was Moss Pit and Skinny which I had never done. I had heard about a small ledge to get to Skinny and I was apprehensive about it.
Reaching Moss Pit took longer than I thought but eventually we got there. The abseil is about 20 m but requires some squeezing between two rock walls and going under a chockstone – it could have been called Skinny! Once at the bottom, ferns and moss adorn the walls – hence the name: very pretty! It was time to tackle the ledge! A safety line had been placed to assist. My imagination had been working overdrive: the ledge was big enough – not the 40 cm ledge that I had envisioned – and I was able to traverse it bent over – the other option was on my knees! The ledge is not the reason this abseil is called Skinny. According to Marilyn blog, the crack in the cliff line is ‘skinny’ compared to ‘fatty’ the next crack in the cliff line. All very re-assuring! 
Soon I was on rope and what a lovely 40ish m abseil along a wall, the last 10 m finished in the vegetation.
And then it was punishment time: back up Devil’s Hole a second time! We could have added an extra abseil to the trip but the thought of walking up Devil’s Hole a third time did not appeal!
