Side-Tracked By A Track
Side-Tracked By A Track
The Sunnyside Ridge Road has re-opened. The pagoda-hunters were keen to check an area overlooking Carne Creek.
We parked at the head of a fire trail: it turned out, it was the wrong one! Some bushbashing saw us on the right fire trail. The trail became a track and soon we arrived to a well-maintained unknown walking track. What do you think happened? Pagodas were forgotten, we followed the track to see where it would take us. Down it turned out!
After a tea-break on top of a small pagoda, we had a discussion on what to do: The call of the unknown track was strong: four of us continued down a steep path to a flowing creek. As the track started to climb back up, steeply, the enthusiasm petered out! We turned back and after reaching a large rocky outcrop, took the views over Carne Creek cliffs in.
We returned to the original objective: pagodas! The map showed several that could be accessed from the top of the hill. What followed was a merciless bushbashing with people wanting to go right, left and centre! We arrived to some boring pagodas: nobody had the will to continue. After a rest we turned back and hiked back the track and fire trail back to the cars.
