The Peninsula – Day 02
The Peninsula – Day 02
Sun and a blue sky welcomed us in the morning instead of snow! After packing our gear, we retraced our steps to the top of the ridge and made our way down a spur to a side-creek. The steep sides of the opposing ridge looked impassable!
The first cliffline was easy to cross but a drop stopped us. John find a way down on the other side of the gully. We took our time as we dislodged numerous rocks. We stopped for morning tea on a sunny rock overlooking the creek before the descent into the shadows and the rainforest!
A short walk down through the rainforest and we were at the creek. We crossed over slippery rocks and started the climb to the ridge. That side was easier: a “ramp” led us gently to the first cliffline. A short rock climb and we were through.
We paused to admire what is now known as the Jeff Bezos rock which looked like one of his rockets. The second cliff line petered out and we were within reach of the ridge line and more importantly back in the sun! We had hopes to see views of the peninsula but there was too much vegetation. Once on the ridge we continued ascending and joined a fire trail which led us back to the car and a cold howling wind.
