A Slot In The Cliff

I stumbled into this creek a few years back during a walk and noticed the slings! I was keen to come back with ropes and do the abseil. This year was the year!

This is not a canyon, but rather a slot through a cliff line! Getting there took some time and we discussed what was the best way to get into the creek: the higher you start, the more abseils! The first two abseils were along a waterfall and slippery! The next one ended in a deep pool: I did not want to get wet so found a way to avoid it. Abseil 04 was a big step down. All these abseils could be avoided! 

We arrived on the cliff edge where I had been a few years ago. Whoever abseiled through this cliff the first time was gutsy! Abseil 05 ends inside the slot near a pool. Being the last one to abseil, it was standing room only! After much discussion, abseil 06 was done in two sections with the same ropes. This led us out of the slot to a spot in the cliff line. The rope got stuck but I managed to free it. 

We stopped for a belated lunch and considered our options: there was a dodgy ledge that nobody liked so we decided to abseil to the bottom of the cliff: a great abseil along a wall! Then we followed the cliff through the vegetation and climbed back up to the top! Well worth the effort!
