On A Giant Dragonfly Quest

On A Giant Dragonfly Quest

I was hoping it would be third time lucky! This was the time of the year when giant dragonflies mate and can be photographed while engaged in their amorous pursuits! I had been to this place twice before and had seen nothing!

It is quite a long walk that requires to cross two creeks twice (down and up) but it is worth it! We set out on a day that promised to be hot! We crossed Bell Creek and made our way to a swamp where the insects had been sighted some years ago!  Eyes alert, we followed the creek. Something caught my eye and I saw one flying above the sedges some eight metres away: it was big! and that was my encounter with the giant dragonfly!

We continued on and climbed on a plateau that overlooks the confluence of December Creek and the Wollangambe River. I do like this area: no photograph can do it justice!
We descended into a creek and after following a ridge retraced our steps back to Bell Creek and eventually the cars.
