Numantia Falls: Leech Paradise?
Numantia Falls: Leech Paradise?
Victory Track is one of the many tracks under the Blue Mountains Council control that is affected by a “partial temporary closure” since 2022.
Temporary: lasting for only a limited period of time; not permanent (Oxford Languages).
What are the odds that next year at the same time. the track will still be temporary closed?
I was on a mission to find a waterfall in the area so we had to get creative to reach the track! We found a way in … and the waterfall but it was more fall than water! So it is back in the to do list when the heavens open up again!
We decided to push on to Numantia Falls. The debit was not strong but at least water was flowing. We explored the back of the falls which proved to be a mistake: we were ambushed by ruthless hungry predators! The smallest leeches I have ever seen: they were starving – probably due to the lack of visitors! I found two, my walking partner was less lucky: he probably got 10! We de-leeched ourselves as best we could but the damage was already done: the enemy had already breached the gaiters! I would find further evidence back at home…
The Numantia Falls pool is a so-called “secret” swimming hole: you have been warned!
The day was muggy (unusual for November) so we decided to turn back leaving a bloody track behind us…
