Coach Galleries – Glow Worm Tunnel
While “cleaning” my photo catalogs, I came upon photographs that I took in 2017 at the Coach Galleries. Wouldn’t it be nice to go there again? The plan was set in motion…
The regrowth was not too bad and soon we were at the start of a cliff-enclosed valley. The galleries consisting of caves and overhangs were stunning. Although the 2019 bushfire had left its mark on the landscape, the valley floor was covered with lush ferns.
We left the valley and followed the cliff line to the Whispering Gallery. At the circular cave, we tried whispering but were not lucky with the experiment! From there we jumped onto the Old Coach Trail back to the cars, taking in the views to the Glow Worm area and Donkey Mountain and looking for pipeline remnants.
Back at the cars, we had time to spare so we decided to inspect the work of National Parks on the Glow Worm Tunnel precinct. A lot of work has gone to beautify the area. The major piece of work is the walkway complete with handrail inside the tunnel. The dual purpose is to protect the glow worms and the ankles of visitors (before the upgrade, the tunnel floor was uneven and littered with rocks)!
After oohing and aahing at the glow worms, we returned to the main track via the Bell Grotto canyon.
And how did National Parks do? It won glowing reviews from all of us!
