Kolonga Labyrinth
Kolonga Labyrinth
When SBW put this walk on the calendar, I jumped at the occasion! The plan was to reach Wentworth Creek from one the spurs in Kolonga Labyrinth. John had already eliminated a few possibilities.
We set out along Lawson Ridge Trail and made our way to Kolonga Labyrinth. We detoured to a hill that John thought might be the real Mount Twiss that Williams Dawes reached in 1789. However this does not match the location on the map published by Lindsay Paish in 1989. In any case, the views to Mount Hay, Mount Banks, Mount Bell and Mount Tomah were fantastic!
We eventually arrived to a cliff edge overlooking Urella and Wirralie Brooks. After some discussion, John picked a spur and we descended towards Wentworth Creek. A handline helped with a passage through a cliff line however there were no safe way down to Wentworth Creek. We backtracked and had lunch above Wentworth Creek – so close but so far! Then it was a hard slog back up and a long walk back to the cars. This is an area that definitively deserves another visit!
