Darwin’s Walk

Darwin’s Walk

After years in limbo, Darwin’s Walk has re-opened! At least two-thirds of it! So I went to check it out!
A lot of work has been done as evidenced by the large amount of material (steel, sandstone, wood, etc) used! It is still a boring walk (for me anyway).

“Following down a little valley and its tiny rill of water, suddenly and without any preparation, through the trees, which border the pathway, an immense gulf is seen at the depth of perhaps 1500 ft beneath ones feet.”
Charles Darwin Diary.

Darwin’s Walk marks the beginning of the Grand Cliff Top Walk. The track follows and crosses the Jamison creek several times until the creek eventually leaps over the edge of the cliff becoming Wentworth Falls.
Being on Council Land the vegetation is laced with weeds. The dam and the old pool have survived the past floods. I imagine that Darwin would have had a different experience!

The track is closed between Fletcher Street and Weeping Rock. This last section will be opened in 2025.
