An Heroic Journey

An Heroic Journey

When I heard Waterfall Creek, I just said Yes! I can’t resist a creek and a waterfall… A look at the map: it is going to be a long day: eight hours should do it!
We were soon at Bowens Creek after descending through the Gobsmacker exit. The water level was higher than usual: we decided to continue. We soon were at the point of no return: a jump and we were committed! Bowens Creek was delightful: no constriction but high walls and several waterfalls on the side-creeks. After two hours of walking, the creek changed and it became hard: boulders and vegetation slowed our progress – it started to remind me of Wentworth Creek! We reached Waterfall Creek at 15:00!

From then on it was uphill. It is easy to understand where the creek gets its name from: the numerous small and occasionally big waterfalls along its course. But I was too tired to enjoy it and we had to reach the track before we lost the light! We managed to bypass several obstacles and eventually reached the track as the light was fading! We were back at the cars just in time to use our headlamps. The trip took about 12 hours!
