Avoiding Getting Wet In A Wet Canyon

Avoiding Getting Wet In A Wet Canyon

This unpublished but well-known canyon had been on my to-do list for a long time but things got in the way! It has swims/deep wades and neither Kevin and I were keen on getting wet on a cool gray day or anytime for that matter.. but the decision was made!

So we set off map in hand and soon enough we were in the headwaters of the creek. The first abseil was a breeze and so was the second one except for this pesky deep cold water pool that seemed unavoidable! But where there is a will, there is a way! Let’s say that Kevin was particularly strong-willed and we came out of it dry!

A deep wade was on offer next and we declined, choosing to abseil further along and avoid the deeper part of the wade. Abseil four came and went and we loitered in a pristine rainforest complete with palm-tree ferns. We continued along the creek to what looked like a hole in the ground. The last abseil out of the way, we followed the creek and climbed back to the cars.
