SHARPS PASS TO CANYON COLLIERY

SHARPS PASS TO CANYON COLLIERY

We are back in the Norse Gods playground! The intention was to descend into the Grose Valley via Sharps Pass discovered by a member of the All Nations Bushwalkers Club. From a distance the cliffs in the Blue Mountains look impassable but I am always amazed at the number of passages that can get you through the cliffs.

After reaching what I privately call Baldr Head, we headed through the pass. Steep is how I would describe it: about 30° rendered challenging by the loose rocks. Eventually the slope “flattened” and we were soon above the Grose River where another challenge awaited us: the vegetation! The Grose Valley has gone feral! Thick regrowth, lawyer vine, tobacco plants and an horrible native bush with sharp thorns … We crossed the Grose and made our way up a ridge that took us to the Canyon Colliery trail.
